the clutch is one of many essential components of a motorcycle top rated by pulling or releasing the clutch lever with the left hand before going into the details on working of a clutch let's see how it is assembled in motorcycles power from the engine is converted to Rotary mower the crankshaft as shown is power has been transferred to clutch housing clutch assembly transfers power to the input shaft of the gearbox the power's been transferred to the output shaft and eventually to the rear wheel of a motorcycle the clutch assembly itself is a combination of several parts sister pressure plate held in place by using several Springs and screws plate presses against the clutch pack the clutch pack consists of several steel and friction plates placed in alternate positions clutch basket and the inner Hub are assembled with their axes aligned to the input shaft of the gearbox now let's understand how a clutch works the clutch basket free Wheels with respect Fox the engine power will spin the clutch basket but it will not transfer any power to the gearbox however the inner Hub is connected input shaft of the gearbox we spend this inner Hub then it will also spend the gearbox input shaft let's take a hypothetical connected with teeth on its internal and external portion that can interlock with both the clutch basket and the inner Hub if we insert this hypothetical connector between the clutch basket in the inner Hub then we can spin both of these at once in the engine power reaches the gearbox please remove this hypothetical connector basket and inner Hub will be Independence again and the engine power is disconnected but there is a problem in using this connector the connector is removed the inner Hub spins due to inertia of the motor wheel and the outer basket spins due to engine power this is why these two components start spinning at different speeds in order to interlock with both of these non-synchronous spending components the hypothetical connector will have to spend at two different speeds at the same time which is impossible for example if it matches the inner Hub speed then interlocking this connector with the outer basket will be either impossible or too difficult to eliminate this problem the clutch pack is used in place of this hypothetical connector unlike a hypothetical connector the clutch pack is a combination of separate circular plates let's take any two adjacent plates from the clutch pack one of them is a friction plate and the other is a steel the friction plate has teeth on the outer circumference which always interlocks with a clutch basket and can slide sideways along this clutch basket the plate spins with the clutch Bass doesn't affect the inner hub the steel plate has teeth in its inner portion which always interlocks with the grooves in the inner Hub and can slide sideways along this hub spins with the inner Hub but doesn't affect the outer basket these plates can slide sideways we can press them together actually increasing friction so that both of them start acting like a single unit like our hypothetical connector with this Arrangement if we outer basket the inner Hub will also this will eventually transfer power from the engine to the gearbox even if the plates are spinning it different RPM at first the gradual increase in friction between them will eventually synchronize them if we release the pressure the two plates become independent disconnect the inner Hub with the clutch and the engine power is disconnected several other plates are added to increase strength and surface area now let's understand how pressure on these plates are changed while riding a motorcycle we use the pressure plate for this purpose it has ducted attachments where set of Springs can fit in a set of retainer bolts are screwed to the inner Hub this causes the spring to compress and apply force on the clutch pack resulting insufficient friction between the plates we can release the pressure on the clutch pack by pushing the pressure plate outwards we can control this pressure pulling or releasing the clutch lever as the clutch lever is pulled or released a cable or hydraulic system rotates and actuator arm as shown in the animation disarm presses against the pushrod towards the clutch this rod goes through a duct inside the input shaft and pushes the pressure plate releasing the pressure on the clutch pack when the clutch lever is released again apply pressure to the clutch pack as shown in the animation

motorcycles of today are the true marvels of engineering basic model of inner parts of a tip cycle is shown here we will explain the basic function of each of these parts in a motorcycle let's begin from how a motorcycle engine starts all motorcycles have either a Kickstarter or a self-starter or both starter mechanism is simple yet interesting as the kickstarter livre is descended a helical spline forces the gear to slide and engage with a freewheeling gear on the main shaft as the leaver is descended further the gear spins on its axis and transfer the power to the clutch Hub the clutch Hub transfers the power to the crankshaft and eventually to the engine battery powered motor provides initial spin to the engine once the engine is started the starter motor has to be disengaged from the crankshaft to prevent damage due to excessive speed achieved by using a one-way clutch shown here is it a roller type one-way clutch it has an odor race and an inner race with small rollers as the starter motor spins the outer race in One Direction the rollers get trapped between the surfaces and the power is transferred to the inner race and us to the crankshaft what's the NRA start spinning faster than the outer race released causing the interface to spin like every four-stroke gasoline engine motorcycle engines require a source of ignition to ignite the air-fuel mixture for powerstrokes plug is used for this purpose the spark plug wires voltage in excess of 20,000 volts to fire properly in this particular model of the voltage is obtained from the stator of the motorcycle although a 12 volt battery may be used for the same purpose the stator is a stationary coil of wires the flywheel of a motorcycle has a set of permanent magnets which revolves around the stator and produces alternating current in the coils each output from the stator has different purposes as shown here the output for the ignition purpose is received from the Exciter coil coil has a denser winding of thinner wire than the other coils to produce higher voltage for the ignition which is supplied to an electrical known as the capacitive discharge ignition or CDI unit for an AC CDI is shown here the primary function of the CDI unit is to store electric charge and dump the store charge when required a capacitor inside the CDI unit stores the electric charge another component known as a pick-up coil tells the CDI unit when to dump this charge the pickup coil has a small magnet with a coil of wire around it the flywheel has a small Extrusion on its outer surface in approaches and passes the pickup coil a small voltage is developed in the coil does voltage is applied to the CDI unit which closes and electronics which known as a silicon controlled rectifier or scr dump all the charge when the capacitor through the output of the CDI unit to increase the voltage further and ignition coil is used the ignition coil is a Step up Transformer which increases voltage up to 200 times the input voltage which is sufficient to fire the spark plug several other factors contribute to the continuous operation of the engine child are controlled by using a timing chain as shown as long as the engine is running the crankshaft rotates and transfers power to the other components for proper operation single-cylinder engines generally use a counterbalance to reduce the vibration caused by unbalanced forces the clutch helps and smooth transfer of power from the crankshaft to the transmission system the transmission system helps in altering the speed and torque as per our requirement

in motorcycles the torque and RPM of a wheel is controlled by manually shifting gear leavers up or down with our left foot motorcycle gearbox comprises of a series of different gear step which can be switched according to the requirement the gear lever is connected to a shifter shaft and the other end of the shifter shaft is connected to a ratchet mechanism this ratchet mechanism activates as shown in the animation the purpose of this ratchet mechanism is to rotate the shift in drum at specific angles shifting drum has special shaped channels cut into it attachments known as shifting Forks get into these channels gears known as gear dogs or dog clutches fit into the shifting Forks as the shifting drum rotates Fork along with gear dogs sideways as shown in the animation the purpose of sliding dog clutches will be explained shortly let's understand the arrangement of different gears in gearbox there's an input shaft and an output shaft the gears are arranged with their axes aligned to their respective shafts some gears are internally splined these blinds perfectly mesh with external splines of their respective shaft these lines allow gears to slide from side to side while maintaining the same angular speed as the shaft all gears which are shown here in red color are splined some gears are freewheeling gears these gears can freely spin about their Oxys sideways along the shaft years shown in blue color are freewheeling gears the remaining gear is a static air which is attached to the input shaft what's number all these gears from 125 for better visualization please note that all freewheeling gears adjacent to dog clutches have recesses dog teeth can slide into these recesses and lock these two gears with each other now let's see how power is transferred with different gear ratios in a gearbox you can observe here is that every splined gear is meshed with a freewheeling gear if we spin the input shaft power is transferred to the output shaft this is a neutral position of the motorcycle to change into first gear the gear dog number 5 in the output side slides toward the freewheelin gear number one and locks with it since the gear number 5 is splined the output shaft on now spin with this gear is the first gear can we change the second gear the year.
